A phrase that one might associate with James Cameron is “cutting-edge technology.” From the terrifying T-1000 in Terminator 2: Judgement Day (now back in theaters as a 3D re-release) to the alien-blue Na'vis from Avatar, Cameron is known for CGI creations that ignite our imaginations. So it may surprise you that when it comes to the movies Cameron loves most, he prefers special effects done the old-fashioned way: with trick shots, models, and other analog magic. Maybe it shouldn’t be such a shock, though—after all, he did push himself (and his crew) to their physical limits and beyond to make his deep-sea thriller The Abyss! In this video, we hear from Cameron, in his own words, on the movies that most inspired him.
