Many films feature a combination of monochrome and color photography in their running time, but not too many go to the lengths of blending those visual styles in the same frame. Splashes of color in their mostly black-and-white palettes provide symbolic flourishes that communicate thematic ideas as well as a character’s emotional state. This video hones in on high-profile movies that are very different from one another, except that they all combine black-and-white and color imagery to powerful onscreen effect. Let’s just say we’re not in Kansas anymore!
