The filmmaker's journey is chronicled in the fall of 2001 from California back home to New York, where her apartment once overlooked the World Trade Center in PARALLEL LINES. Driving along back roads as she winds her way to Ground Zero, she stops to talk with strangers about September 11th, which unexpectedly provides a unique window into the inner lives of Americans. The people she encounters at random inevitably want to share their own personal stories of loss: a woman tells of losing custody of her children, a veteran describes his battle with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, a cowboy reveals his mother murdered his father. These poignant glimpses along the open road of an America in mourning reveal heartache, humor, surprise and above all, the drive to endure.
