Suspense
see all genres ›Alfred Hitchcock once differentiated between suspense and mystery by saying that the former is an emotional process while the latter is an intellectual one. Anticipating a major event while remaining uncertain of its outcome is the essence of suspense. Certain situations lend themselves to that feeling (a chase, for instance) and, unsurprisingly, those situations often occur in suspense films.
