Danish
see all genres ›An early pioneer in commercial film export, Denmark turned more inward in its cinema production for years until it rode a wave of erotic envelope-pushing in the late-1960s. The line of maverick talents from Carl Theodor Dreyer to Lars von Trier grew much more crowded in the 1990s as the "Dogme 95" school helped sweep into prominence such major new directors as Susanne Bier, Anders Thomas Jensen, Lone Scherfig and Thomas Vinterberg (in addition to non-Dogme talents such as Christoffer Boe).
