Zombies of the Stratosphere1952

  • 3.5
ZOMBIES OF THE STRATOSPHERE is for the lovers of old Republic Serials, those incredibly fun episodic films that kept our parents and grandparents coming back to the theater week-after-week. Over the course of twelve action-packed episodes, watch security agent Larry Martin (who can fly with an experimental rocket suit) and his cohort Bob Wilson try to save the Earth from the evil Martians. Can Larry and Bob thwart the villainous Martians' plan to blast our planet out of its orbit and replace it with their own? Why are some Earthlings conspiring with their dastardly plot? Not a zombie in sight (but you will find Leonard Nimoy in one of his first roles)!

This is an old popcorn serial about a rocket man called Zombies of the Stratosphere. What else do you need to know?

What...? Need more! Okay, it also has a young Leonard Nimoy playing a martian.

One of the greatest titles of all-time, but unfortunately matinee magic of the great Republic serials of the 30's and 40's is just about tapped out here. The ol' slam-bang formula Republic used to enthrall a generation of kids at the Saturday Matinee seems pretty thin and tired by the 50's. Still, it's worth it see a see a young actor named Nimoy playing his first alien, and stellar model work by unsung Hollywood special effects wizards, the Lydecker Brothers.

This is the best! I LOVE this serial! A rocket backpack that doesn't burn your feet off.

Flying through the air, going up and down with the twist of a dial. Nothing could be better. Wow, this is great. I wanted one of those rocket backpacks so bad when I was a kid. And for those too young to remember watching these on Saturday mornings, this one has a "drive-by audition" by Leonard Nimoy, as an evil Martian henchman, for his future role as Mr. Spock on Star Trek. So get a cup of coffee and sitback and let your rocket backpack fly you away. You can't miss with this one.
