A pulse-pounding political thriller, Greek expatriate director Costa-Gavras's Z was one of the cinematic sensations of the late sixties, and remains among the most vital dispatches from that hallowed era of filmmaking. This Academy Award® winner, loosely based on the 1963 assassination of Greek left-wing activist Gregoris Lambrakis, stars Yves Montand as a prominent politician and doctor whose public murder amid a violent demonstration is covered up by military and government officials; Jean-Louis Trintignant is the tenacious magistrate who is determined not to let them get away with it. Featuring kinetic, rhythmic editing, Raoul Coutard's expressive vérité photography, and Mikis Theodorakis's unforgettable, propulsive score, Z is a technically audacious and emotionally gripping masterpiece.

"Z" was powerful and overwhelming when I first saw it; it is blood-curdling, skin-crawling in 2015.

One has only to contemplate how despicable, iniquitous, wicked and evil was the US-backed coup d'etat against the people and democracy of Greece under Lyndon Johnson (1960s and DURING the atrocity of the Invasion of Vietnam).

Worse, viewing it in 2015ce, NOTHING has changed: the scorched-Earth Sacrifice Zones (Chris Hedges) -- the desolation and immiseration wrought by the US and Western JUDAEO-CHRISTIAN Civilization is wicked, and unmistakable and worldwide. "Global" seems to be the term of art.

As in Greece, the forces of Wall Street and the aristocracy ("The Palace"), the military, and law enforcement in the AngloSphere and the EuroSphere against their OWN citizens demonstrates the utter and complete depravity of the psychopathic civilization based on the psychopathic God of the Torah/Old Testament and Qur'an.

Savage, bloody, brutal police thuggery in enforcing the EUGENICS on the down low and apartheid again people of African and Indian/Spanish ancestry and the continued invasions and war-by-corporation around the world against Native Indigenous peoples hows that the genocide continues with only the same "internal investigations" and "administrative reprimands" for officials as portrayed in "Z". No accountability for Greece fascist official authorities then; far, far less now in the AngloSphere and in US empire-backed puppet regimes.

United States is the REAL Third Reich, the REAL evil empire. I hope nuclear war is not the result of the latest, ill-advised US/NATO effort to invade Russia, following the failed efforts by Napoleon, Kaiser Wilhelm II and Hitler himself.

I remain grateful for the courage of people like John Kiriakou, Edward Snowden, Jeffrey Sterling, Chelsea Manning, Barrett Brown, Jeremy Hammond, and Julian Assange, among others, in revealing to the world the atrocities of United States.

And then there is Climate Change.
