A hypnotic, erotic and riveting film that transcends any perceived limitations of the science fiction genre, VANISHING WAVES is one of the year's most provocative international films. Lukas (Marius Jampolskis) is a researcher who volunteers for a sensory deprivation experiment attempting to communicate with Aurora (Jurga Jutaite), a young comatose woman. The experiment takes an unexpected twist when the two meet in their mutually altered forms of consciousness. Soon, their psychic meetings turn into a romantic, sexually charged relationship set against the backdrop of surreal dreamscapes created by their collective minds. To protect their newfound bond, Lukas hides his findings from the researchers. But, will his deception doom their relationship?

Hmmmm. Thirty years ago, I went through some recording of my dreams and then self-interpreting them. A marvelous and mysterious girl/woman began to appear in my dreams. I became more conscious of her and began cautiously pursuing her. As the weeks went by, we got closer and closer , but I could never see her face. My conclusion was that I was starting an inward journey, seeking to integrate two parts of myself. A marvelous union/reunion.

My own memories got in the way of this film, yet also helped me to come to grips with it's possible meaning. The film is very good. The experience even better.

You're candor is intriguing. Jung says a fully actualized human being is in touch with both male & female trait of their psyche. Jung a student of Freud went much further than Freud on a spiritual journey rather than the libido drive in humans. His parental environment was the most dominating factor I think as he searched for his meaning. JESUS says in HIM we are neither male or female, for HE completes the GOD head fully who is SPIRIT as both yet neither. We Worship our CREATOR in SPIRIT & TRUTH. We're created in GOD's image & likeness.

Ouch. Haven't been hit this hard by sci-fi since Upstream Color.

Where does Peter Von Poehl get off writing such bloodcurdling music? Feels like angels are shooting _____ into the hole in my heart.

His dances along the edge of being a horror movie or disaster movie. The main protagonists and a young cognitive scientist and a girl in a coma from an automobile. crash. Their minds can be somewhat connected with headpiece with a hundred connectors, when the subjects' connections to the real world are reduced by immersion in a sensory deprivation tanks. From the beginning there is a complex connection between the two, primarily but far from completely successful. Both of the connected parties are dead at then end, from to created a closer connection and some semblance of better connection and maybe even a little understanding.

The first 75% of the movie is slow and develops both misunderstand and closeness.

The atmosphere, dialogue, and the derails of some potential regular, environments remind me very much of J.P Ballard's early science fiction, before he crashed (pun intended). The sound, photography and sets really drag the watcher (well, me) into one of those earlier sort of stories. More than worth the almost 2 hours. And, of course, nary a hint of a resolution.
