The Tracker2002

  • 4.1
The year is 1922. The Tracker has the job of pursuing the Fugitive, an aborigine who is suspected of murdering a white woman, as he leads three mounted policemen: the Fanatic, the Follower and also the Veteran across the outback. The Tracker, a mysterious and enigmatic figure whose true character remains unknown, assists them in their quest. As they move deeper into the bush and further away from civilization, the toxic forces of paranoia and violence begin to escalate, stirring up questions of what is black and what is white and who is leading whom. Their journey becomes an acrimonious and murderous trek that shifts power from one man to another, challenged by the indigenous people they come across as well as each other.

Spoiled brats do their thing which isn't all that interesting.

enjoyable, believable.

Solid camerawork, but it's let down by the editing now and then. Some cuts feel unnecessary or too quick. That said, the disturbing juxtaposition of Peter Coad's paintings with the colonial violence of the film is absolutely indispensable, and often more powerful than the dialogue or action. The soundtrack might seem a bit too on the nose, but this is deliberate. The lyrics were written by the writer/director Rolf de Heer, and they provide the narrative with the timeless, cyclical quality of an oral history. Fantastic performances and great chemistry from David Gulpilil and Damon Gameau. A difficult film to decipher both aesthetically and ethically, as it should be, but ultimately worth it.

David Gulpilil...so yeah watch it. Even if David was just reading the phonebook for two hours you should still watch David Gulpilil whenever he is on screen. Movie is watchable, but nothing great, other than David Gulpilil.

very good entertaining movie, well worth watching
