The Railrodder1965

  • 3.8
In one of the last films of the comedian's long career, Buster Keaton stars as a "railrodder" crossing Canada from east to west on a railway track speeder. As might be expected, the film is full of sight gags as Keaton putt-putts his way to British Columbia. Not a word is spoken throughout and Keaton is as spry and ingenious at fetching laughs as he was in the days of the silent slapsticks.

Of the legendary holy trinity of silent screen comedians, Harold Lloyd retired, Charle Chaplin moved on and put the tramp behind him, but Buster Keaton was always Buster Keaton, right up to the bitter end. Keaton died less than a year after this was released, but this film is classic Keaton: absurd, inventive, and in constant motion.

A beautifully realized late-in-life tribute to the artistry of Buster Keaton. Without him it would have been a unique and quirky travelogue. With him it is a classic film.
