The Oregonian2011

  • 2.7
There is a place. A place where the skies are wide and the forests are thick and strange. You can lose yourself forever in these woods. You’ll meet truckers with problems and old women with strange powers. You may even make a furry friend. Just be sure to stay quiet. Spend some time with a woman from Oregon who is lost on the road and running away from her past. Now she has a chance to experience everything the grotesque Northwest has to offer, whether she likes it or not.

This reminded me greatly of Carnival of Souls having that same dream-like somnambulist vibe.

I watched this film waiting to see if, in the end, it would make any sense to me other than suggest what nightmares follow when disconnected or alienated from one's humanity. In the end it was senseless and not a movie I want to see with a bag of popcorn or in the company of my grandchildren. And where did that title come from?? - I thought I was about to view a good-old happy western.

Strange even when I was not high anymore. This movie we should stop analysing after the first 5 minutes. I'm still trying to figure out if the garbage monster muppet had sex with her, and if so...why did she become the green garbage muppet? Where is the dog? So did the fat man drink urine? Rainbow piss in my mouth makes me happy.

Strange, surreal, with moments that genuinely gave me goosepimples. Do NOT look for linear storytelling here. In a way, given the way the movie FEELS, I think having too much explained would be to explain it all away.

Dreams operate within their own self-contained logic. They don't make sense in any concrete way, but they do make sense to us emotionally, and in our subconscious. That's the way the film works.

A pointless succession of images, designed, I suppose, to evoke a sense of some sort of horror movie genre. But all that was achieved was a pointless waste of time.

The biggest question is, is she alive or dead ? Is she in some sort of purgatory or just hallucinating form the car crash ? Most will hate this, and say it's a bunch of surrealist garbage. That's fine. For those with an open mind, here is a writer/director branching out with something new, and different in the world of underground film.

Once I stopped trying to figure out what was going on in this movie I was able to sit back and enjoy it. It's completely open to interpretation.

I thoroughly enjoyed this movie! Its "Eraserhead" for the millennium. Visually scary and disturbing scenes. Bound for cult status.

Huh?

Good but not great. If you like abstract films and are in the mood for a horror film this is worth a watch, yet it isn't excellent I would say just good. If you don't like non-linear films take a pass on this one.

...really?

This is a hard movie to review. There is great atmosphere, but the soundtrack drove me batty. The main actress is very good and the old crazy woman really raises the hairs on the back of your neck.

Utterly insane.
