It's interesting how a 100-year old film can still defy one's expectations. I would have thought there would have been some reward for the bindlestiff who helped out and more of a punishment for the miser. Still, this is a film that is a lot of fun to watch. Like watching a child grow, viewing silent films is always a pleasure and education.

D. W. Griffith was a master of audience manipulation in the genre of home invasion stories. He was willing to break rules including sticking a young child out a window by a rope. Its still as thrilling now as it was then.
