"The name of the game is people-watching at its best," says Shirley Horowitz, narrating her husband Ephraim's improbably beguiling film of a Sunday in Central Park in June 1969. This offhand study of the social hub that is the Bethesda Fountain, with its throngs of city dwellers becomes a paean to the urban art of lounging-about where "many come simply to ward off loneliness." As a fount of unvarnished Americana, movie-hobbyist Ephraim records the unstructured proceedings with friendly amusement in this rich slice-of-life. - Jonathan Kiefer

Great footage. Terrible audio.

The audio is hard to hear, and the verite style somehow does not capture enough vitality for such a fascinating time and place.
