The Egg1922
Before Stan Laurel met Oliver Hardy, he made this short for legendary actor-producer "Bronco" Billy Anderson. Clearly working under the influence of Charlie Chaplin’s "Little Tramp," Laurel stars as a hapless naïf who stumbles into a conspiracy at his workplace. Even as he clinches his role as the hero, he’s liable to accidentally douse himself with soda-water. Meanwhile, the laborers put Laurel on a pedestal as an unlikely rabble-rouser. A few of THE EGG’s class conscious gags wouldn’t be out of place in Charles Chaplin’s MODERN TIMES.
