As early as 1906, Alice Guy sought to prove a point that leading females could be great comics too. Set long before the infamous Prohibition Era in the United States, this short, which is filmed almost entirely outdoors, offers a humorous look at a woman who is assigned to sew a new mattress into fluffy shape but whose efforts become hindered after an alcoholic gets trapped in her mattress, inciting fear in the house guests who use the mattress and creating utter mayhem in the entire the town. Alice did well with her locations; her one bedroom scene where the mattress was staged was lit very well and her lengthy outdoor scenes where her heroine carried the sewn mattress across ditches, busy roads, and lush groves was quite impressive. The short seemed to end abruptly and I would have liked to see some type of resolution toward the end; perhaps the woman is fired after her efforts proved futile or the drunkard escapes. As the picture quality is fairly dark at the end of the picture, it does appear as though both the woman and drunkard are punished in the end, giving the short a sensible resolution after all.
