Excellent. Well paced, no deceptions, but just enough slight of hand to make it all play.
Generic giallo junk, lightly enhanced by Argento's stylized approach to violence/action sequences. Dialogue scenes are shot and staged with the enthusiasm of a root canal. Plotting and characterization an afterthought.
A hollow shell of what he would become as a filmmaker.
Great movie. Great to see Tony in the movie. Keeps you glued to you seat. You need to see it right to the
end.
The film that kicked off a volcanic spate of similarly themed gialli, The Bird with the Crystal Plumage is a remarkable debut and one of the best gialli ever filmed. I have to wonder if these other viewers saw the same movie.
Fooled me! I watched ever so carefully, but was sufficiently distracted by other "clues" left to be discovered, that I got hopelessly lost. The master has my respect and admiration. Well crafted.
I'd have given it another star but for some roughness in lines delivered.
firstly I must thank you FANDOR.COM FOR HAVING THIS MOVIE IT IS A ALFRED HITCHCOCK GEM OF A MOVIE AND BROUGHT BACK SO MANY MEMORIES EXTREMELY FRIGHTENING PSYCHOLOGICAL THRILLER VERY WELL ACTED BY ALL ACTORS AND ACTRESSES.AMUST SEE!
"Bring in the Perverts! Look @ them carefully & see if you recognize anyone..." A friendly warning to all you gore-hounds; don't expect L'uccello Dalle Piume Di Cristallo to deliver much. His trademark stylized violence hasn't been fully formed here. Its more like a random-out-of-nowhere-scratch-from-your-pet-type violence. "Whats the matter? You don't like cat?"
Also Noteworthy: Morricone's "lalalalalalalalala" score.
No wonder Argento is referred to as the Italian Hitchcock. This is the first of his works I have got around to, and I expect myself watching more in the future. The ending really made this film for me. The constant back and forth throughout the film of hinting the husband was the ladykiller, and then to just come out and show it was the wife. It fit and worked without being too gimmicky. Looking forward to more of Argento's work to say the least.
The Bird with the Crystal Plumage may not be as visually inventive as Suspiria, but it's more unpredictable and suspenseful and a pretty remarkable first film by Argento.
No better than a bad made for tv movie.
Argento's first film, but not his best. still a classic nonetheless.
