Summer Has Been Over for a Long Time1980

  • 3.6
Punk filmmaker David Markey gives visual voice to the end of the "Endless Summer" Southern California beach scene of the sixties and the rise of the "Dogtown and Z-Boys" asphalt and concrete scene of the seventies and eighties. A young man watches the bikinis and boogie boarders around him but just can’t relate. Raiding backyards and riding empty pools on a skateboard is more than an evolution, it's a revolution. Or, with Devo's "Gut Feeling" providing the score, is it a de-evolution? - Marilyn Ferdinand

The perfect visual accompaniment to Devo's "Gut Feeling." Comes off as equally effective, if not more authentic, than any music video a MTV-reared "Hollywood" director could produce.

This was so good!! Totally worth it for the early solo mosh practice. Very very cool.

Just a fucking homemade music video

Poetic & dramatic in a way I ain't never seen a Markey before - with a whoopin good dash of youthful joie de vivre! Killer!

Loved it! David Markey is great. Love Devo, The Buzzcocks, the solo slam dancing, Space Invaders... now I'm going to have "Gut Feeling" in my head all day.
