Created before the classics that would forever enshrine Dziga Vertov as a cinematic innovator (most famously THE MAN WITH THE MOVIE CAMERA), this line-drawing cartoon offers a broad satire of the monarchist, religious, capitalist society his compatriots had just overthrown. The final minute is an intriguing example of how historically, socialism has often fallen short of its ideals by treating women as obstacles due to their economic survival strategies within capitalism. At least they hang her by her skirt, not her neck, I suppose....
