Sounding Out: Yes1972

Yes

Back in October 1971, Yes was at a very important time in their career. They had released two albums in the previous ten months, each dispensing with a band member hitherto deemed irreplaceable, and then replacing them. But whereas Tony Kaye and Peter Banks had been vital parts of establishing the early sound of the band, their replacements Steve Howe and Rick Wakeman were an integral part of phase two of the band's career (the phase that would send them off into superstardom).

I joined Fandor just to see this and I certainly wasn't disappointed! If you're a fan of the original(ish) Yes, then this is an amazing glimpse before the masterful Close to the Edge and the departure of Bill Bruford. Say what you will about Prog Rock, but this incarnation of Yes was quite possibly the most musically talented group performing live at the time and they were able to recreate their studio work exceptionally well onstage.
