It's no “Black Sunday,” but Barbara Steele makes routine Italian Gothic-Horror flick entertaining. It’s her huge eyes, conveying stark, paralyzing terror one moment, sadistic, vengeful fury in the next. She's like a figure from a Margaret Keane painting come to life—and out for blood!
Wonderfully over-the-top mish mash of gothic horror tropes. Dark experiments, madness, gaslighting, doubling, imprisonment in castles, its all here. Throw in a bit of Poe´s "Tell-Tale Heart" and Rebecca´s Mrs Danvers and you´ve got a bubbling cauldron of sorts. Barbara Steele is magnificent as always. My favourite type of horror.
A bit much. I didn't finish it.
