Night Hunter2011

  • 3.9
In this handmade film, composed of more than four thousand collages, the actress Lillian Gish is seamlessly appropriated from silent-era cinema and plunged into a new and haunting role. NIGHT HUNTER evokes a disquieting dreamscape, drawn from allegory, myth, and archetype. Music and sound by Larry Polansky.

CINEMA FANTASTIQUE! Silent movies are bewitching. Their damaged, flickering imagery are like strange dreams, transmitted somehow from our subconscious to the big screen. Stacey Steers' channels this phenomenon into an eerie yet charming animated film that fuses modern filmmaking technology with moving images from the last century to create an amazing mash-up: D.W. Griffith meets Edward Gorey to tell a strange little tale with Lovecraftian overtones. It reincarnates Lillian Gish--one of the truly great artists of the Silent era--into the 21st Century. This is exactly the kind of film that Fandor gives you the opportunity to experience--WATCH IT NOW!

Strangely alluring. Remarkable and Beautiful and Grotesque. Although completely different in style and technique and even story - this reminded me greatly of Suzan Pitt's "Asparagus".

Very nice. Great sound track. Genuinely creepy!

visually excellent. great lunch break viewing

I love this film. I am reminded of Max Ernst's A WEEK OF KINDNESS, the animations of Larry Jordan, and Joseph Cornell's obsessive cine-fetish, ROSE HOBART. Amazing animation!

Great film love Lillian Gish wonderful reference to Max Ernst
