Never Weaken1921

  • 3.6
Harold Lloyd's "glasses" character dangles an engagement ring outside the window of the girl next door. When her boss, an osteopathic physician, tells her the business is doomed, Lloyd drums up new customers with some well-engineered pratfalls (notable for the use of real locations). A misguided suicide attempt results in Lloyd maneuvering high-rise construction beams in a breathtakingly agile slapstick ballet.

Of the great Triumvirate of Silent Comedians (Chaplin, Keaton, Lloyd), Harold Lloyd is probably the less-known to modern audiences. His fame seems to have faded a bit with the passage of time, while Chaplin and Keaton continue to make people laugh, nearly a century later. While certain aspects of his films are dated, Lloyd possessed a screen energy that transcends the ages. Indeed, it is somewhat intriguing to consider the career of Harold Lloyd had he been born a century later and was making movies TODAY! "Never Weaken" is a great introduction to Lloyd, and the hapless, glasses-wearing character he made famous: his brilliant comic timing, his athleticism, his screen charisma. Long live Harold Lloyd!

Love it. Always have, although it's not near as funny without an audience.
