Fast-talking, delightful Depression-era social comedy. The viewer can't help but be charmed by the clever sophisticated "found" butler, Godfrey (William Powell), and the ditzy, but determined Irene (Carole Lombard). The film at first seems quite subversive with its big swipes at elites and how outclassed they are by a common man off the street. Then it's revealed that Godfrey isn't such a common man after all. Still, the message that everyone has something to offer if we work together is clear. Very entertaining and funny.
