Mon oncle1958

  • 4.2
Slapstick prevails again when Jacques Tati's eccentric, old- fashioned hero, Monsieur Hulot, is set loose in Villa Arpel, the geometric, oppressively ultramodern home of his brother-in-law and in the antiseptic plastic hose factory where he gets a job. The second Hulot movie and Tati's first color film, MON ONCLE is a supremely amusing satire of mechanized living and consumer society that earned the director the Academy Award® for best foreign-language film.

Beautiful visuals, both of the old disorganized french cities and the new geometric suburbs. The monotony of modern life and automation is contrasted with the humorous acts of mischief and chaos committed by the children and protagonist. The perfectly timed/choreographed actions of the characters and the stunning sets make this a real delight to watch.

very French in its humor

Can be enjoyed on charm and whimsy but has a deeper level of modern criticism to it that is still playful and not trenchant... I liked it

Tati is a Master!!
