Gory revenge is raised to the level of visual poetry in Toshiya Fujita's stunning LADY SNOWBLOOD. A major inspiration for Quentin Tarantino's KILL BILL saga, this endlessly inventive film, set in late nineteenth-century Japan, charts the single-minded path of vengeance taken by a young woman (Meiko Kaji) whose parents were the unfortunate victims of a gang of brutal criminals. Fujita creates a wildly entertaining action film of remarkable craft, an effortless balancing act between beauty and violence.

An Asura(fighting spirit) is born to vengeance.Admittedly she is a very beautiful Asura but also a very tough and single minded one. She hacks and stabs her way through this Tarrentino prequel. Shot in an interesting time politically in Japan as foreign powers are prevalent and struggling for power. An interesting mix of musical styles and fine cinematography make this a "cut" above the average vengeance flick.

Visually arresting with many brilliantly shot scenes and spellbinding Meiko Kaji as a pale apparition of revenge appearing as a porcelain five-foot woman in a yellow butterfly kimono carrying a purple umbrella. Interesting and unexpected plot twists, but her near supernatural obsession makes the story grim and bleak.

Cult classic!

This film without a doubt is visually captivating!

This is story telling at the finest. An amazing story of female energy and the gifts of being a woman. This movie was created when feminists where at there height in America and female demigods existed in Japan. This is a bridge between reality and fiction, life and the underworld, male and female, folk and modern, Japan and America. Excellent film making in a era that does not exist anymore.
