This is one of those films that has your stomach in knots, as from the beginning, it is clear that impending tragedy is on the way.
In patriarchal Argentina, a rich former slave trader, Luciano, asks the father of the village beauty for her hand. Although the father is aware of the problems that will be caused by an "outsider" wedding his daughter, he cannot refuse Luciano's offer of money. The obedient daughter agrees to the marriage--but she is attracted to the man, not the money. The brother of her former boyfriend does not intend to let the wedding go smoothely. This is clear from the outset. A very well done film that will grip you to the end.
