This film makes a joke of sexual abuse and does very little to redeem itself.
Updated RE Gillian: While I understand your position and respect that you as the maker definitively have the right to say what the film portrays and tells, I'll stick by my comments as a representation of my experience and perspective viewing the film. My review doesn't intend to invalidate your qualifications or efforts, but does intend to reflect that the film left a very sour and disrespectful taste in mouth based in my own experiences with assault and that negative trigger is something you should take into consideration with your future story tellings and endeavors.
Thanks for taking the time to respond and I hope to enjoy your next film as well!
Hi Ty, I appreciate your opinion and would never want to censor what you say, but since a near majority of women experience sexual assault, wouldn't it be prudent to assume that the filmmaker might have herself? Assault is not a joke. But I believe what I put onscreen has more to do with relationship dynamics than violation without consent. Thank you for checking out the film and I hope you'll like my next one better. G
Some funny moments, amusing in its brazenness. But I found it more uncomfortable than funny. The feeling of abuse here is just too real.
Quietly surreal.
Brilliant. Meticulously put together. Possibly too subtle with its most inspired bits. But I catch new homages, connections, jokes, character quirks, and humor every time I watch it. If you don't find this funny, your sense of humor is puerile and needs an upgrade.
Puerile.
Liked the film, but didn't like what the film was all about. I seem to be discovering more and more attitudes of men that bother me a lot. The actor in this film did a really great job of telling us with his eyes/expressions that he was changing from Dr. Jekyll into Mr. Hyde. She hoped for respect perhaps, or restraint, but none of this mattered to him and his new agenda. I'm left with no answers, just a very deep feeling of sadness. The music in the background throughout often made it very difficult for me to hear/understand what was being said.
Anton Yelchin. Kate Lyn Sheil. A ridiculous title that calls out to Shane Black and a poster that lampoons Robert Aldrich. This is a hysterical take on manipulation, soft rock, the stupidity of relationships, and the blind fog of self-adulation. Gillian Horvat is the real deal.
Lousy joke played over and over with no cinematic virtues.
lame
Cute. I got a few chuckles out of this. Kinda wish it was longer. The characters are funny!!!
3 1/2. Good acting, well-paced, and pretty funny. Dug it!
Plenty good for a short. Very sad about Anton though.
Provocation for provocation's sake, doesn't tell a story
Quirky, yet thought provoking.
A talented cast and well done but an absolutely silly idea.
Hilarious.
Kate is brilliant, as always.
Interesting idea and good casting. Wish it can be longer.
Terrible!
Anton Yelchin (RIP) and Kate Lyn Sheil are great (and Buck Henry, who we don't need to be old to remember since he wrote The Graduate and appeared in timeless classics like Short Cuts and The Man Who Fell to Earth), but this plays like a weak Funny or Die clip.
Ridiculously absurd more than funny. Its well executed and acted but I'm not really feeling it...
Its a good thing this movie is short because its pointless.
Bleh, not so great
The idea was sleazy, but I liked the actress. She did a good job, I thought. This movie is worth a watch. I got off on it.
Stupid
Simple premise, not very funny.
Funny, but the pacing was slow at times.
Meh.
Didn't like the film, but I did like the music. Wouldn't mind getting the soundtrack.
Not quite what I hoped it would be, but I'd be interested in seeing something else from this director.
