Okay. This can stand of as a catalog of late nineties socio anthropological tendencies in the North Americas: mall goths, hair farming, obsession with various working class folk art forms like Mexican wrestling, "bad movie" dubbing, and Lesbian make out sessions. (Well that one's more of a classic). What saves this movie is that if comes from Ottawa, and Canadians just can't take themselves seriously enough to be hipster douchebags. In fact the whole enterprise has the same certain slapstick, hermetic goofiness brought to us by other Northern Lights like Guy Maddin and Kids In The Hall. The banter is brighter than you'd expect and the whole thing's infused with a kind of sweet, utterly UN-pretentious charm. Yes, as has been noted, it's as if some one and their friend's said hey let's make a movie, but it just so happens this group of people are likeable. Fandor, I've noticed a thread in your curation: a kind of singular charm that leaves a lot of your movies hovering above the others in their genre. Nutflics has a bunch of the same movies, but you've started to create an identtiy with your picks.
yes!!! good and trashy!!!!!
Listen to me, and listen well: watch this movie. Do not do it now. Do not do it alone. You surely know already what you are getting into without me having to expound at length on its immense value as the most amazing piece of self-aware ironic bizarro world kitsch-camp trash of this century. Wait to watch this movie, make an evening of it with friends, but watch it. Undersell it as I am even now. I hope this has quelled any doubts in your mind. Superb. Five stars. Watch it, watch it, watch it.
A truly awful film. It lacks any semblance of humor. The actors and their characters are endlessly embarrassing. There is no artistic/cinemagraphic art, here. Avoid.
The eye-lolling title isn't whats necessarily funny about this bizarre, tired, and, at this point, almost commonplace hokum. Instead it's the terrifically hilarious timing of the actors in the film. Everyone is hamming it up, sure, but the near-stationary movements and staccato dialogue is the kind of intentional drivel that makes this now stale premise function. And who can deny a "Streets of Rage" type of fight sequence? I usually don't fall for this "late night/cult bred" sort of affair, but this one makes the grade.
Great trash! Loved the intestinal nunchaku flailing about!
I agree with everything that evilyng (another reviewer) wrote. Such a fun movie. Loved the premise..yes, good and trashy...and it was challenging to get through the first few minutes, with it's stilted acting (one of the priests) came off like a okay student film, but I'm so glad I stuck with it. As it went on, I appreciated more and more of the nuances of the satire and it's loving jabs at genre pictures from the 70's and later.
The film seems to have been shot in 16mm...and I feel that what they did was no small feat, especially given the budget. It looked like it was a lot of fun to work on! Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter deserves to be seen! It's a fantastic piece of trash cinema...and I mean that in the most flattering way!
it was a very good movie
Umm... wow... eh... hmm... uh... okay.
