Hafford's Saloon2015

  • 2.5
This is a short video I made while doing research for my new feature, TOMBSTONE RASHOMON. It was shot on the streets of Tombstone and in a Western movie set, Old Tucson. It details, in real time, how long it took the Earp Brothers and Doc Holliday to walk from their saloon redoubt to the gunfight: a mere one minute and forty-five seconds. Given the consequences, I find the shortness of that time period terrifying. - Alex Cox

In a sense, this is sort of a DVD extra for a movie that hasn't been made yet (but hopefully will!), but it does give quite a bit of insight into how a filmmaker like Cox carefully plans and prepares before shooting. Keep that in mind the next time you see a two minute sequence featuring a long walk. It's always harder than it looks.
