Genevieve, a New York intellectual, moves to the country with her self-involved journalist boyfriend, Sebastian, while he works on his latest project. Bored and neglected, Genevieve turns to Robin, a working class local, for companionship. When Sebastian forms a bond of his own with Robin, Genevieve finds herself overpowered by jealousy and insecurity. Tensions mount between the two women and soon reality and fantasy become inseparable in this haunting examination of the female psyche.

I almost gave this movie 4 stars for the seemingly abrupt ending, rethought my initial impulse, and decided it fit right in with this start to finish suspenseful & engaging true-to-life portrayal. One of a comfortable Brooklyn couple (that could be any codependent couple) that moves into the woods for the male's "work", where the female partner allows another questionably attractive female to befriend her. The results are inevitable - as was the female partner's solution to her resulting problem - but you don't see them coming each step of the way, which made this film quite excellent, in my opinion.

Loved the casting. The look of the actors was perfect, and they did an awesome job. Wonderful subtlety of the looks and dialogue by the characters. Sound effects/music imparted a delightful menace to the isolation of the woods and countryside, with unique instruments. What tension in this triangle.

Excellent actors, so-so film. This is they type of film wherein you see hints of the themes it pretends to care about but never really quite fleshes them out. The connection between director and actress is one sided and attempts to dimnsionalize fall flat. Less is more but only if one has the skill of craft to define less.

Lush cinematography - with beautiful use of natural light - combined with an impressive edit make for a wonderful visual trip through this ephemeral world. Kate Lyn Sheil and Sophia Takal are very good in their leading roles while the other actors are solid as well. The film doesn't focus much on plot, which may deter some viewers. However, the palpable atmosphere is something worth beholding. It calls to mind a work like Robert Altman's "3 Women" in its aesthetic inspiration.

A totally inert, static film that relies on the inherent likability of Kate Lyn Sheil to move its narrative forward. Sheil is like Greta Gerwig combined with Mamie Gummer and it's unfair to everyone else. It's almost like using a GameShark code: It might work, but it's basically cheating because you don't have to try.

This moves at a snails pace. Not much to it. Its a very well acted film. The characters are incredibly believable and well played out. But the storyline leaves a bit to be desired. This could have been so much more.

looked to me like the guy won. She had sex with him the way he had been wanting. Not much like the review stated.

I accuse the director and writer of fan abuse. The skill of the actors could not overcome my intense dislike of the film. That droning background music was discomforting and irritating. The whole hour was punishing for me, though I did stay with it till the end. I must be a masochist.

Sophia Tikal presents an entirely unique glimpse into female psychology in this uncomfortable and intense film.

Not so satisfying as some of the other works of these film artists

twenty-two min's into this and I'm already severely depressed, yet there's a certain honesty to this film that I find refreshing. clearly am a glutton for punishment. (back to it..)

Genevieve is wonderful / Sebastian is not really / Robin totally annoying_ i almost gave up because i was tired of listening to her_but it's filmed really well fantasy & reality are well blended /moves really well_so in the end i really liked it

awful

This will be short, but I enjoyed the movie for the most part. Sometimes the style overpowered the substance. The narrative was not particularly surprising for a horror story, but enjoyed how the filmmaker let the relationships evolve through filmic elements and editing rather than dialogue and standard storytelling methods.

Passed the Bechdal (?) test. Started deceptively monotonous.
