Fanny and Alexander1982

Through the eyes of ten-year-old Alexander, we witness the delights and conflicts of the Ekdahl family, a sprawling bourgeois clan in turn-of-the-twentieth-century Sweden. Ingmar Bergman intended Fanny and Alexander as his swan song, and it is the legendary director's warmest and most autobiographical film, a four-time Academy Award®-winning triumph that combines his trademark melancholy and emotional intensity with immense joy and sensuality.

When I first saw the title for this film, I thought "no way I'm going to watch a two-hour film" Then I wondered if it was a Bergman film. When I saw that was, I pulled it up without hesitation. Glad I did. It is a magnificent opus beautifully created by the master. Now it's no longer available, but I'm writing this in case it comes back. I wished it lasted another 3 hours.

Rich, mystical and still rewarding over the years.

Great masterpiece.

This film is visually stunning and emotionally complex and enriching - really delightful and HEART-y cinema at its best. It is especially refreshing to be completely absorbed in this world after getting entangled in many unclear and confusing experimental films recently!

philosophical, metaphysical, visually decadent drama.

Suggestion: see this on a large screen, so rich to the eye, and movies can do so much to give the impression of place and time if made by guys like this guy Bergman. Not bad.
