Drama at the Puppets' House1908

  • 3.6
As the title suggests, DRAMA AT THE PUPPETS’ HOUSE is one of Émile Cohl’s more theatrical animated shorts. The chalked forms are arranged as a cast, with two stick figures vying for the affection of a third and a stern policeman patrolling the frame. Cohl’s sly animation sends up propriety and honor even as it ends with a romantic clinch.

Brilliant use of successive animation to create a Dadaist/Surrealistic world. Conceived and created before these terms were even formed.

Very whitty and intelligent!

Not really entertaining except for the metamorphoses that take place to transition from one scene to the next.
