David Searching1997

  • 3.3
This uncharacteristically sweet independent film from writer/director Leslie Smith stars Anthony Rapp and Camryn Manheim as a pair of roommates. David is a young, gay, aspiring documentary filmmaker who takes his first tentative steps towards his adult life. Gwen, ending a mysterious marriage, is looking for stability. Together, they try to maneuver their way through New York on a search for happiness. Instead they find bad dates, worse job interviews and bizarre romantic encounters. The supporting cast features well known theater actors in surprising cameos. DAVID SEARCHING will warm your heart as these richly portrayed characters laugh through the trails of life.

"Admittedly, Smith’s low-budget film is crudely made and edited, but its scrappiness doesn’t diminish my affection for the characters and the messages." - Gary Kramer, Keyframe

Absurdly realistic with an excellent cast and outstanding direction. I'll be watching this charming film again for the good feelings and warm vibes. And for any moment of enlightment I might have missed.

this is the work of a young filmmaker. It has defect, but it also has a wonderful spirit to it. The characters are played well and exuberance li. The plot line is really amusing. As the title suggests, the lead character is confused and clueless. He remains so at the end of the movie, which is a little disappointing. But I still really enjoyed the film.

Good story line and reflects my understanding of reality and the sexual yearning of various people.

Tedious. There was no one to cheer for.

sweetly poignant.

this is a very interesting movie its fun to watch a film that deals with lgbt issues without making them weird or verbotten the acting and character development is excellent

I enjoyed it a lot. It was well-done, and nicely reflected the anxiety and confusion of hooking up, finding relationships while young and gay.

good movie. very surprising ending!

excellent casting

nice

Enjoyed the relationships of the city and the friendship and life collade.

AT FIRST I DIDN'T GET WHAT DAVID'S ISSUE WAS. HE SEEMED TO BE STAND OFFISH AND COLD. HE COULDN'T SEEM TO MAKE UP HIS MIND TO WHAT HE WAS GOING TO DO WITH HIMSELF. HE WOULDN'T LET ANY OF THE GUYS IN WHO SEEMED TO BE INTERESTED IN HIM. AT FIRST I DID NOT LIKE HIM, BUT HE GREW ON ME. GWEN'S CHARACTER WAS COOL. WALTER THOUGH STRANGE WAS A PRETTY NICE FELLOW. ALL IN ALL I ENJOYED WATCHING THE FILM

great
