Cattle Queen of Montana1954

  • 3.9
Barbara Stanwyck stars as "a woman of fire… in a land aflame!!!" in Allan Dwan's tough-as-nails 1954 Western, gorgeously shot in Montana’s scenic Glacier National Park. "Stripping off her petticoats and strapping on her guns" (as the original press material screamed), strong-willed Sierra Nevada Jones (Stanwyck) takes on cattle thieves, corrupt land barons, angered Blackfoot Indians and even a few ill-advised suitors as she struggles to keep her and her father’s cattle business alive. A mystery gunman (Ronald Reagan) adds further intrigue (and possible romance). Boasting crisp Technicolor cinematography by noir veteran John Alton, CATTLE QUEEN gave Stanwyck's steely charm a new venue in the Old West and serves as a fascinating companion to her similar roles in Anthony Mann's THE FURIES and Sam Fuller's 40 GUNS. - Jason Sanders
