Having read both the original text and the updated edition, the license that the film takes with the actual events is disappointing. The fact that in real life, Griffin was a psychiatrist who considered himself liberal and set out to prove that the south did NOT have a race problem adds poignancy to the story. Changing the character to a writer who sets out simply to experience life in the south as a black man is pure '60s white liberalism.
it was interesting to see that someone really cared how the Negro felt and was wiling to go to such lengths to make others aware of the strife and struggle that they endured.
Classic story that still rings true today, unfortunately. We must understand our history of racism to stamp it out. Learn through this film.
What wrong wit he eyes? Look like Nosferatu.
