For me, Afraid so accomplishes a near perfect short film craft. Its central poem, originally written by Jeanne Marie Beaumont and narrated here by Garrison Keillor, provides a flawless conceit that the selected imagery illustrates and contextualizes. The rhythm of this short is tense, musical, a well of suspense that all leads up to a satisfying conclusion in the form of a simple title card. Is it grim? Is it morose? Could it inspire dark moods? Afraid so... but that doesn't make it any less worth watching.

I am out of coffee. Impending doom.
nice quickie. delayed visuals added to suspense.
Very clever use of archival footage to illustrate a very depressing poem.
Perfection in a short film.
The contrast between the images of concerns and tragedies, and those of far simpler issues, was poignant and a good reminder of what is truly important. Sometimes people, and I include myself, become far too wrapped in inanities. However, I felt as though the poem benefited little from this treatment.
