Soon after her wedding, newlywed Duyen's excitement begins to fade as she realizes her young husband is not only naпїЅve but overly occupied by his job and doting mother. As her marriage goes unconsummated and her emotional isolation grows, she reaches out to her closest girlfriend, Cam, who secretly desires her, but pushes her into the arms of a dangerous and provocative suitor. The resulting infidelity puts Duyen in a precarious love triangle, challenging her notions of conventional relationships and also the stability of her new family. Directo Bui Thac Chuyen's absorbing second feature traces the emotional and psychological landscapes of lust and desire, weaving an atmospheric tale of love and life in modern Hanoi.

The title so perfectly describes the plight of the main characters, the husband as well as the new bride. Bui Thac Chuyen did a wonderful job revealing the life of modern Vietnam; the everyday life, on the verge of what we consider modern, was as captivating as the story itself.

This is a Vietnamese movie shot in Hanoi about a young naive bride married to an immature mother's boy. At the insistence of her friend, she takes up with a cruel Casanova type guy (think of that bad guy in high school whom all the girls went for!). At the end of the movie, the bride says of her lover: "He scared me, he hurt me, but he made me feel my body all over". The shots and interiors of Hanoi are interesting, but the movie was a bit of a drag with some symbolism that escaped me. There is a Wikipedia article under the movie's Vietnamese name: Choi Voi.

Not bad. I liked the cultural references.

Beautiful filming and a story that a lot of woman and men can relate to.
