A Touch of Sin2013

  • 4.3
A TOUCH OF SIN was inspired by four shocking (and true) events that forced the world's fastest growing economy into a period of self-examination. Written and directed by master filmmaker Jia Zhangke, this daring, poetic and grand-scale film focuses on four characters, each living in different provinces, who are driven to violent ends. An angry miner, enraged by widespread corruption in his village, decides to take justice into his own hands. A rootless migrant discovers the infinite possibilities of owning a firearm. A young receptionist, who dates a married man and works at a local sauna, is pushed beyond her limits by an abusive client. And a young factory worker goes from one discouraging job to the next, only to face increasingly degrading circumstances.

Sin is embedded in human nature. Circumstances and arrogance can place us on its path.

There is a palpable feeling of tension, and dread which underscore the entire film. It is

necessary for the individual, and culture to manage this dark side through law and conscience.

Neither are perfect, and often fail. The shroud of heavily polluted air seen through most of the film,

seemed to further convey sin's ever present corruption subtle, or worse of life. Well acted, and

filmed. The pace and length worked well for the story. The ending reminded me of Shakespeare,

who suggested that life is a Play, and we its actors whose fortunes ebb and flow, for better or worse.

I didnt really absorb what I was watching completely yet I really liked it . Interesting characters and good acting. I get to watch it again more carefully. I like that.
