Melissa Lefkowitz

Melissa Lefkowitz is a doctoral student in New York University’s PhD program in sociocultural anthropology. Since 2010, she has documented in text and film the lives of Africans living in Guangzhou, China. Melissa holds a bachelor's degree in Literature and East Asian Studies from NYU and a master's degree in East Asian Studies from Harvard University, where her research examined China’s visual representation of Africans from the Mao era to the present. Her current research centers on China's impact on Kenya's digital and media worlds. Melissa’s writing has been published in China Brief, The Diplomat Magazine, Concentric, and other outlets.
