Anna McGrath

Anna is an award-winning screenwriter and director based in Melbourne, Australia. Following three years crewing on film and TV productions, Anna completed her Masters in Film Narrative (2008) at the School of Film & TV, Victorian College of the Arts, University of Melbourne.

Anna focuses on stories that are emotionally evocative and through the lens of curiosity and wonder she explores the strange and often unspoken ways that we communicate as humans. Her films have screened at over 70 festivals worldwide, capturing audiences in such diverse countries as Japan, Sweden, Iran and Brazil. Her films have garnered a number of awards including prizes at Tribeca Film Festival, Palm Springs ShortFest and a nomination for ‘Best Achievement in Direction’ by the Australian Directors Guild.

In addition to her films’ festival success, Anna was a Jury Member for the 2013 AACTA Awards, was invited to participate as a mentor in the 2009 Tribeca Film Fellows program and was selected to attend the 2012 Berlinale Talent Campus. In 2014 Anna was one of sixteen Australian and New Zealand filmmakers to take part in the prestigious Melbourne Film Festival Accelerator program – an intensive lab for directors making the transition to feature film making.
