Jennifer Reeves writes that TRAINS ARE FOR DREAMING “condenses eight years of Super 8 film into a seven minute celebration,” and indeed its passing landscapes, sound transmissions, trips to the seashore and portraits of a grandmother all strike the viewer as an elusive and intensely lyrical panorama of the past. The fragments surface with great perspicacity in Reeves’ rapid-fire editing. “It’s a little hard to build the scale of happiness,” a man’s voice says towards the end, but Reeves gets at it by favoring the momentary to the momentous. - Max Goldberg
