In reality, Buster Keaton was a lifelong baseball fanatic. ONE RUN ELMER must have been a pleasure to make. The game itself is almost entirely silent and incorporated many of the gags Keaton used in the charity baseball matches which he helped to arrange. They often featured of a host of fellow comedians. The gags include an oversized bat, a base attached to a fielder's ankle by elastic (so that it can be yanked away from the incoming player) and a bat which splits open, allowing Buster to put a bullet in it. The explosive hit that results frightens the opposition (who hit the dirt for protection) and allows Buster to score the winning run. ONE RUN ELMER saw the first of Harold Goodwin's appearances in his longtime friend's Educationals. He later cropped up in THREE ON A LIMB, GRAND SLAM OPERA, JAIL BAIT and DITTO. It also features the lovely Lona Andre in the first of her three Educational shorts with Buster. She is also featured in THE TIMID YOUNG MAN and THREE ON A LIMB and is fondly remembered by Laurel and Hardy fans for her appearance as Lily in the boys' 1936 feature OUR RELATIONS. Lona Andre retired from films in the late forties and became a successful businesswoman. She passed away on September 18, 1992, age 77. - David Macleod (courtesy of Kino Lorber)

Keaton was a huge fan of Baseball. He used to play in a comedy game for charity...lots of gags and pratfalls. It's also mostly silent, which is refreshing for an EF.
