A remarkable success in India, KHALNAYAK produced an immediate scandal around the song "Choli Ke Peeche" (which, naturally, delivered significant box office returns for writer/director Subhash Ghai). The film casts Sanjay Dutt, the so-called "original bad boy of Bollywood," as a notorious gangster who escapes from his captors. As fate would have it, the girlfriend of the inspector that originally nabbed the elusive criminal gets involved in a plot to get him back. But things in a Bollywood film never quite progress as you would expect. While the production values of this spectacle is well above-average, the source materials are not. The assets could accurately be described as "inferior" (given the necessary windowboxing and the comparatively low-resolution of the film-to-digital transfer) but regretfully acceptable as these are the best materials available at the moment.
