As the first short work shown at the first public film exhibition on December 28th, 1895, WORKERS LEAVING THE LUMIÈRE FACTORY is frequently cited as cinema’s Big Bang. This alternate version pictures employees leaving a different gate from a lower camera position. The modification to the iconic composition is subtle but striking: the workers are shown in finer detail and with greater stature.
