"...this meditation on desire and its travails has a light touch, and it belies the astonishing age of its maker." - Anthony Quinn, the Independent

Adapted from a century novella by Eça de Queiroz, Manoel de Oliveira's exquisite ECCENTRICITIES OF A BLONDE-HAIRED GIRL is the story of an ill-fated romance between a young accountant and a mysterious woman he spies through his window.

"Eccentricities" is well worth watching for de Oliveira's characteristic gripping mood and the simultaneously stodgy and exotic Lisbon setting. On reflection, the abrupt ending does make some sense, although whether its abruptness is fair to the viewer after the genteel pace of the rest of the film is a valid question.

More de Oliveira!
