The winner has a few bad habits that create unexpected problems in the relationship. DEATH'S MARATHON is a race against time to prevent a horrible end to his problems.

Apparently two years before making “Birth of the Nation” D.W. Griffith realized there were greater hazards to the sanctity of the American family than the mixing of the races. This could have been a PSA on the evils of gambling, and its consequences. I was waiting right up to the end for someone to pull out a frying pan and give a “this is your brain, this is your brain on drugs” type speech.
