Osamu Tezuka animates film leader, vertical lines, hairs in the projector, frame jumps and various splicing goofs for a thoroughly winning compendium of projection quirks. The old timey cartoon characters interact with all this noise as physical fact, popping open umbrellas for cover from a hail of scratches and chasing the bad guy up a ladder of skipping frames. In the age of digital projection, BROKE DOWN FILM provides a lighthearted reminder of what was.

Wonderful use of traditional animation conventions in the context of what can happen to old film-based cartoons! Brilliant. (Oddly, we've been having download freezes, and with this feature, it was almost like it added to the overall ambiance.)
Lots of sight gags with real originality. A very charming animated short.
Very "meta" - I love how this short plays with the fourth wall.
