Oscar 2013: Who Really Deserves to Win?
Who really should win this year’s Academy Awards? A video series takes a hard look at the on-screen evidence.

In case you haven’t noticed from all the TV commercials, full-page ads, talk show appearances, news articles and blog posts, the annual Oscar game is in full swing. Academy Awards voters have until February 4 to cast their ballots, basing their decisions on any number of factors, namely all of the aforementioned campaigning plus any word-of-mouth buzzing through Hollywood.
We aren’t fully privy to insider knowledge, but we do have access to the one thing that, in a perfect world, really should matter the most: the movies themselves. And so, with the purpose of centering the Oscar conversation back to where it really belongs, we present “Who Should Win,” a video series co-presented by the Press Play video blog at Indiewire.
For the benefit of your Oscar pool ballot, inside each video you’ll also find our predictions for who is expected to win. But the web is cluttered with so many of these prognostications that we lose sight of could be the most fulfilling aspect of this exercise: discussing the merits of each of these nominated artists. Let the debate begin.

These are fantastic.
I totally agree that Silver Linings Playbook should win, it was just an amazing movie. I’m betting Jennifer Lawrence gets the Oscar, cause she was awesome.
I felt Silver LInings Playbook was a mediocre sitcom. Jennifer Lawrence was way over her head, and she never gave a believable performance. Her line readings were atrocious. Sally Field had no chemistry with Daniel Day-Lewis and everything about her performance was very actorly and annoying. Helen Hunt has a co-lead performance- not a supporting performance. Her nomination is category fraud . Anne Hathaway gives the best and the most haunting performance in Les Miserables. Hathaway deserves to win. Philip Seymour Hoffman is a co-lead- not supporting performance. He should not have been nominated for best supporting actor. Christoph Watz is another co-lead performance-not supporting performance.

Beasts of the Southern Wild was hands down the best film of the year. Entirely unforgetable. A miracle of a film. Any discussion about what films deserve an Oscar that does not at least include that film is not to be taken seriously.
The most perceptive & entertaining take on the Oscar nominees I’ve come across. I’m a big “Silver Linings” fan but you also had me reconsidering some of the other choices as well. Great job!
