DAILY | Trailer for Ying Liang’s WHEN NIGHT FALLS

This is the film Chinese authorities find so threatening that it’s driven them to hassle Ying Liang and his family.

Nearly two weeks ago now, we alerted you to a report from Edmund Yeo that independent filmmaker Ying Liang had been threatened with arrest should he return to China after debuting his new film, When Night Falls, at the Jeonju International Film Festival in late April. Kevin B. Lee followed up, noting that the new film “is based on the true story of Yang Jia, who killed six policemen after allegedly suffering police brutality, and whose trial stirred controversy and protest over the fairness and due process of the legal system in China.” Now we have the trailer, relating the story from Yang Jia’s mother’s point of view. Thanks once again to Edmund Yeo for the heads-up.
